I don’t have a need to compare my current lifestyle with anyone else. Yes I did stay up all night and sleep for a few short hours. Yes I did wake up and prepare for and execute a mission in Afghanistan. Yes I am still up at 2AM because I’m hopped up on energy drinks. But you know what, I also understand exhaustion. I know that you back home can be exhausted after your day at work, or your one night out to release your frustration, only to be woken up at 4AM by your lovely child. I too have been there, and I don’t think there is any need to flaunt what I do as being better than what you do. I am not self righteous and I don’t need to validate myself by reminding you that my job is hard, perhaps at times harder than yours. But those that do need to constant validation will say quit complaining about your finals or your job or x or y because I’m in fucking Afghanistan. There is no need, They would say at this point it is because of people like me that you can complain. It is not true. It’s because the Army needed soldiers that they were afforded the privilege to serve. The world does not owe you because you took a sign on bonus and a job when no one else would give you one.
